On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to present an outline of Toyota Tsusho (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (“Company” or “TTMSB”) overall performance and major corporate activities undertaken by the Company for the financial year ended 31st March 2017.
Last year was a challenging year with continuing uncertainties in the global economy, and at home, the Malaysian currency continued its downward slide against major currencies coupled with poor consumer demand and weak economic conditions. As a result, the Malaysian economy recorded a lower GDP growth of 4.2% in 2016 which was 0.8% lower compared to 5.0% in 2015.
The Company likewise, recorded lower sales turnover of RM1.325 billion for the financial year ended 31st March 2017 which was about 30% lower compared to RM1.906 billion of the previous year.
Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) Review
The Company is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility by integrating it as part of its overall business operations.
During the year, the Company embarked on the following CSR activities:-
The Company organized a tree planting at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). There were about 46 participants which made up of 25 TTMSB employees and their family members.
The Company donated to the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia (“NKF”) for the Children Education Welfare Fund of kidney failure victims' families.
The Company deliver a mock cheque to the Malaysian Parkinson’s Disease Association (“MPDA”) to enable MPDA to purchase the required equipment for patients use. Ms. Sara Lew (President of MPDA) received the mock cheque on behalf of MPDA.
The Company is fully committed to its Safety Policy and endeavor to achieve “ZERO” accident in all the activities undertaken by its employees at all times.
We are very pleased to announce that for the year under review the Company was able to meet its commitment of “ZERO” accident and will endeavor to continue this policy in the foreseeable future.
As a Managing Director, I emphasize and encourage all of our employees to conduct “3 Always” and “3 Everyday”:-
1. Always consider “SAFETY” as the first priority.
2. Always keep in mind “STOP, CALL, WAIT”.
3. Always separate Forklift area and human area.
4. Everyday find out unsafe point at least 1 thing.
5. Everyday remind safety at least 1 minute.
6. Everyday go back home without any accident.
The Company is committed to preserving the environment and will endeavor to maintain its ISO 14001 for the foreseeable future and undertake to observe all the environmental guidelines contained in its Environmental Management System.
With the publication of new ISO 14001:2015 in September 2015 the Company had since migrated to and certified under the new ISO 14001:2015.
Latest ISO 14001:2015 audit conducted by Lloyd’s indicated no major or minor non conformities.
